I've had this product for two years now and it still brews a great cup off coffee. I agree with the other reviewers about the spillage. I finally just gave up and I use a plastic cup to fill the reservoir with water instead of the carafe. I use bottled water because our tap water makes the coffee taste gross. When I pour my coffee, I pour it slowly and keep a paper towel handy. I am actually looking to buy one for my office but I was surprised to see that the retail price is almost double what I paid for mine! I will be shopping for a used one.

The total volume is 16 ounces (two cups). This is okay. I don't like drinking old over-warmed coffee, anyway.

The automatic shutoff doesn't allow for over-warmed coffee or burned out elements. The stainless steel carafe means less glass carafe breakage and replacement hassle. I have had it for just a coupe weeks.

Even though the plastic lid over the pot seems a little fragile and a little complicated, the DCC "4"-Cup is a good value.

I've had this coffee maker for at least 5 years now, and it's great! My Mom has had all of the super fancy coffee makers, and she was over the other day and said "WOW, this coffee is GREAT!! Way better than the coffee at our house!" It's been working pretty solid; we make 1 to 2 pots almost every day. The only issue is that there is a plastic tube thing on the drip that can cause the water to back off; we just removed it and everything works great! If you just want a basic and reliable coffee maker you've found it!!

My old 4-cup Mr. Coffee was a decent little coffeemaker and it lasted for about three years before it started to give me trouble. Technically it still works but the coffee it brews is only warm, not hot. So I decided it was time for a new machine.

I did a lot of research, and the fact of the matter is that there just aren't many good quality 4-cup coffeemakers on the market. I researched the models from Mr. Coffee, Cuisinart, and Black & Decker, and none of them got particularly good reviews. I went to local stores and played with the display models and all of them felt very light, flimsy, and cheap. Even the Cuisinart was featherweight and felt like it would fall apart at any moment.

I've always had good luck with Hamilton Beach products, so when I found this one online, I had a good feeling about it. I did some more research and found that this particular model is used in hotels all over the country. That seemed like a good sign. Commercial grade products are usually built to a higher standard than consumer grade stuff.

So I ordered it, and sure enough, it's a major step above the 4-cup machines made by the other manufacturers. Even though it's made mostly of plastic, it is heavy and stable and definitely won't tip over easily. The power cord is heavy grade and has a 3-prong plug. The on/off switch has a nice spring action and seems durable.

Due to the fact that these are made for hotel rooms, there are picture-based instructions in white ink on top of the coffeemaker. If you are very concerned about appearances, this might bother you. It doesn't bother me. The #1 thing I'm concerned about is how the coffee tastes... and with that in mind...

It tastes great! It's very hot, much hotter than my old Mr. Coffee. But the water isn't TOO hot, so you don't need to worry about it making the coffee bitter and over-extracted.

I only have two complaints, and they are relatively minor: when you're finished brewing coffee and you open the basket holder to remove the grounds and filter, a small amount of water falls out and splashes onto the warming plate and onto the counter. It's not a huge amount of water -- maybe a teaspoon -- but it does do this every time I brew coffee. Just something to be aware of; have a paper towel handy and it's not a problem. My other complaint is that there is no way of knowing how much water is in the reservoir. Usually they have a little window or some other indicator, but this unit doesn't have either. Mildly annoying, but not a huge issue and obviously doesn't affect the coffee itself.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this coffeemaker and would recommend it to anyone who is searching for a good quality 4-cup machine.

This 4 cup coffeemaker by Hamilton Beach has really come in handy here in my hotel room! I am on vacation; but yesterday I started to come down with a bug and today I used this to make myself several piping hot cups of herbal tea. It couldn't be any easier to use--the visual instructions on the top of the reservoir are very, very easy to understand although as one reviewer notes the instructions do give the coffeemaker that "hotel look" which may turn some people off.

If I want to make myself some coffee instead of tea, this little machine doss the job every bit as well. Fill the carafe up to the amount of hot water you want (there are markings on the carafe to indicate how many cups you'll get from filling it up to different levels) and just pour the water into the reservoir. Add the coffee filter and ground coffee into the basket in the middle of the coffeemaker; and you're ready to go. After you're finished you can remove the coffee filter and any remaining grounds by simply sliding the basket to one side and that's that! Although another reviewer writes that some water comes out when they do this, I haven't experienced any water spilling onto the counter when I use this. In addition, the auto-turn off feature is quite good. It should prevent this from being a fire hazard.

All in all, this is a fine little coffeemaker that lets you prepare a great cup of tea as well. I highly recommend it.

Just a simple well built machine - no bells or whistles here.
I bought it from sams club- it think it was less than back then.
since this is a review I feel obligated to point out a negative -My biggest complaint would have to be the on/off toggle switch -because the machine is such a light weight -you have to physically hold down the machine to toggle the switch- otherwise you end up pushing the entire machine across the counter and the switch will still not budge. so be prepared to use two hands every time you want to turn off or turn on the machine. other than that- not a bad machine for the price.
I would agree with some of the other posts about the swing filter holder being a bitch to put back on. definetly needs a little manipulation to put back on. but..it will last you forever.

I recently got this espresso machine as a present. Before using it I read all the negative reviews and was almost ready to have it exchanged, but I gave it a shot. First of all, I used whole bean coffee which I ground myself, and on the first go the machine did not spit any coffee around as other people experienced. The coffee came out after 3 minutes and the whole process took no more than 5 minutes total, unlike other people mentioned. Espresso was decent quality (the quality of the coffee depends mostly on the beans than on the machine). The steamer is a little weird, but if you just want something for little money that makes coffee/espresso and occasional cappuccinos, this machine works.

We purchased this product from a local shop, relying on the venerable Krups name and the excellent price to steer our decision. This was a horrible mistake. The inner workings of the machine contain a plastic called butyl - it is food grade of course [i.e., non-toxic], but it is a particularly odious product. Opening the reservoir causes the acrid smell to assault your nose, and actually using the machine will guarantee that this terrible emanation fills the entire kitchen. We've tried every conceivable method of mitigating this awful scent, which also flavors the espresso produced with a unique, disturbing, artificial taste, and nothing is effective. In short this constitutes a profound design flaw, and I would strenuously recommend that anyone considering this product stay away. In fact, if zero stars were an option I would have rated it as such. You might have a better experience, but with so many other good products out there, it hardly seems worth the fifty dollar gamble.

This is a great espresso machine if you are on a budget or just starting to make your own espresso drinks. However you get what you pay for, within a month (maybe two months) of use, the handle broke off on the filter, but it still works, so my husband and I have managed to work around it.

We are big iced mocha drinkers, so we haven't really used the steamer yet.

I agree with some of the other reviewers, that it does take awhile for it to start brewing the espresso.

But we've use it pretty much everyday for the last 5 months and it is been a good purchase.

We had a bit smaller version of this for years and LOVED it!! This one looks prettier but it is harder to use. We always steamed milk right in our mug before but with this one it is almost impossible to do because it immediately foams over and makes a huge mess. It does not adjust to steam/froth so you just get froth! It drives me crazy! I would rather have the other Capresso that is a bit smaller but worked great. If you never steam milk I suppose the espresso part works fine. I don't like it :(

In over five years of transactions with Amazon, I've not been this disappointed at all. I ordered the stainless steel product displayed, but I kept receiving the aluminum product. This happened three times though I returned the merchandise with my reason clearly explained. I guess it's the age of machines for if a human eye had read my reason, there was no way s/he could have sent me the aluminum expresso maker three times.

On balance, this is just a small event in my overall relationship as a customer, which I can certainly overlook. However, Amazon should look into this matter because even for them, this business plan is not at all efficient. Amazon incurred six shipping charges and didn't even make the sale.

The item I received was an 8 sided espresso maker. The description and the photograph don't match (wish I'd noticed that before!!). What you'll get actually looks like the Bialetti Moka Espresso Stovetop Coffee Maker. Unfortunately, since I purchaced this as part of a 4 for 3 promotion, if I send it back my order no longer qualifies and therefore virtually no refund. Lesson learned - Compare the description, product name and any other info available, if they don't match don't buy!

I received this gift from my mother in law after we had tea at a friend's house. She owned it and said she used it all the time. We spent the weekend with her and found that we used it quite a bit. It was very easy to use, portable and easy to clean up. It's a great kettle to have if you need hot water for tea/cocoa, etc.

POOR CARAFE DESIGN CREATES TOO MANY SPILLS! - WANT ADS - Baltimore, MD
The shape of the pour spout is incorrect (too shallow). Thus, the lid opens up while pouring the coffee, causing a serious and consistent spill with every pour.

One can minimize spillage to some degree by pouring very, very slowly and by placing pressure on the lid to keep it closed. But, this is way too much effort than should be required to pour oneself a nice cup of coffee. Furthermore, these preventive measures do not always work. And by the time you realize that, the spilled coffee has quietly and invisibly run along the carafe and created a puddle on the counter. It's a real mess.

If I had to do it all over again, I would not purchase this machine due to the coffee wasted and the inconvenience caused by the multiple cleanups.

Mr. Coffee needs to correct this design error! Shame on Mr. Coffee!

I really liked the way it brews coffee and the expresso machine has worked well and easy to use, however, I had to give this 3 stars because the coffe caraf pours all over the counter and the lid broke. It has two little buttons that hold it on the caraf and that is not enough. My husband said I don't care what you buy just get a coffee maker that does not pour all over. We had a cuisinart before and they are GREAT, but, I wanted a coffee/espresso duo. We will be purchasing the Krups xp1500. There will be a review after 6mo for that one.

I see that other reviewers had the same problem as I did with the leaky carafe lid. It is a real pain....literally. When you lift the lid with your thumb as you pour to prevent spilling, you burn yourself with the steam. It is a design flaw by the manufacturer. I can't help but think that if ONE HUMAN actually tested this thing before it when on the market that this lid problem would have been corrected. I guess that doesn't happen anymore. It makes fine coffee though, and the espresso maker is very good for the money. I have had other Mr. Coffee makers in the past and have been satisfied, but this dumb carafe lid is making me question their quality control.

I bought this maker because it is the only one available where I could change the position of the handle by turning it 90 degress to allow me to pour by rotating my wrist instead of bending it in an unnatural way. Pouring by rotating your wrist also allows you to avoid getting a steam burn on the back of your hand. Other pots, like the one this replaced, cannot be modified in this manner.

Makes good coffee, too.

I am a modest coffee drinker. I drink 4 cups a day, and I require little of a coffeemaker other than an on/off button. My last perfectly servicable Mr. Coffee 4-cup machine bit the dust, so I replaced it with this one, because at least I could re-use the carafe.
Well, the internal design guys have been at the guts of this one. First, you can no longer remove, rinse and/or wipe down the internal chamber condensation from your last pot. You have to insert a papertowel into the new internal resevoir, scraping your hand on some internal parts that probably weren't meant to be messed with. They have likewise redesigned the basket, and it barely fits the standard coffee filters anymore, without crinkling and leaving grounds in your pot, and, hey, the internal water resevoir, where it has no business backwashing anyway. And god forbid you should try to make 5 cups in your 4-cup machine, for which there is plenty of room in the carafe, and in the resevoir, and which works well in many other 4-cup machines. My coffee maker lives on top of my microwave on a little shelf, by the toaster oven, because I have no counterspace for it. I have to lift it out some 10 inches, fill it up, insert the basket, and put it back on the microwave to process. I have mastered the art of moving a fully water loaded machine the little bit required. This one sloshes water everywhere. From the top of the machine? No! There's an engineered HOLE in the back of the reservoir to keep you from overfilling the chamber that last little bit. Water fountains everywhere from the center back part of the machine. I suppose I could put a piece of duct tape over it, but who wants duct tape in their coffee. Good God.

I will be replacing my machine shortly, then gleefully smashing my carafes on the driveway.

Brews just a tad slow, but the slow flow extracts all the flavor from the coffee. Easy to clean but the top needs a firm thumb to hold it in place. Or you can remove the holder before pouring. I use a gold-tone number 2 filter, which gives a brew somewhere between paper-filtered drip coffee and French press. I was able to use my filter by pushing the front into the filter holder. Later I cut the front of the gold-tone filter's plastic rim so it slips into the filter holder perfectly. Nothin' fancy, just great coffee!

I've had the product for around 2 months and couldn't be happier. It makes a great cup of coffee and the design is fantastic. The coffee pot's spout works; I pour without any spills. I love it that all the dripping takes place in the pot as opposed to the bottom of the coffee maker. I also love how large the water container is. Of course this is a great looking toaster but every time I use it, I am reminded how much I hate it. With the high price, you'd expect it to work better. It's wide opening makes normal sliced bread widths fall down into the toaster and not able to pop up. I'm constantly unplugging it and digging the burning item out with a fork.
Bagels are generally too wide for the opening and I have to shove it down and then it gets stuck and I'm once again unplugging it to force the bagel (now destroyed) out. To make two acceptable slices of toast, it usually takes at least 4 slices of bread to get it right. I've learned how to make it work with warming up and watching the toast like a hawk. When ever someone other than me uses it, since they aren't used to it, toast is burnt. This isn't how something as basic as a toaster is supposed to work.

I've had mine for about 3 years. The timer knob sticks more and more everyday. If you happen to be away from the toaster you could easy have a fire on your hands.

Repairs aren't cheap. The toaster is over 0. To replace the timer knob, it's 9 from one USA supplier, or ordering it from the UK. The repair labor is up to you.

What drove me in getting this make ? frustration, that is in getting yet another 4 Cup Brewer that can't produce a Hot cup of coffee, so far was a Black & Decker and Cuisinart 4-Cup makers, both only made coffee at 163 degs believe me not hot enough, I used to drink it black with sugar now I am back to extra half / half, add that from the refrig one can lose 20 degs, in heat so starting off with a weak heating coffee maker then add cream one is at approx 140 degs ! now it's a re-heat in a microwave that is a extra dirty cup, I use double wall SS 15oz travel cup.

At last I didn't think I would find any coffee maker that made a higher temperature since my favorite Braun 4 Cup Coffee Maker # KF-12, 179 degs, add cold cream no problem out the door.

The stats
This model is very well made, it doesn't slide when pushing the on or off switch, it has no programmable controls, no problem at all with me, ever since I heard of a employee I worked with left his coffee brewer plug-in and his kitchen burnt down, I pull the plug ! it comes with the latest feature to get an advance cup or pause 'n serve cup, a feature I detest, since IMO only a ignorant person would do that because he/she can't wait a few extra mins, till it's all done, this person gets the "extra strong" cup and the rest is diluted left over, I was just reminded (she dose that : ) she likes the pause 'n serve because it's a safety feature she seen what happens at work to a lot of people getting coffee for customers when some one pulls the coffee pot out early and gets a hot splash, ok, ok that's different than some one who just can't wait, ok it's a safety feature : )

I ordered it with a stainless steel carafe, I am personally not a big fan of SS carafes, I like to see what is going on : - )) could only get a "fits all" replacement S.S. for my Braun (brews,179 degs) but with this one I now have a battle ready carafe as a spare when needed, yes I have ordered a HB glass carafe, but speaking about this S.S. carafe this is no doubt the best pouring carafe I ever used, bar-none, it is an issue with most 4 cup carafes believe me, even with my blessed Braun you have to be just right (read level and slow) in pouring, this carafe never leaked a drop of coffee out after pouring many times (start an stopping) in testing fast or slow and all of the coffee but the smallest drop came out of the carafe in the end, I just hope the glass one I ordered will work half as well, hopefully will update.

As for the taste ? I read reviews on this non-commercial model (here) and some stated it brews a little weaker no doubt because of the round filter design instead of the V shape which does make sense, well I am drawn a bit by this, to me it seems that its only a tiniest bit true, but by very little, I make my coffee 6 oz standard coffee cup with one level teaspoon (measuring spoon) for a 4 cup, I use 3 level tablespoons and 1 half tablespoon, I am use to my Braun maker taste, using the HB I have to guess it was a tad lighter tasting but the jury is still out on this, no big deal I will try using 4 level tablespoons if I decide it is a little weaker. One too two "level" measuring tablespoons is the standard for a standard 6 oz cup of coffee. BTW- this S.S. carafe makes / holds 20 oz as dose my Braun or one good travel mug, I don't believe there are any true 6 oz (4) cup, 24 oz makers out there, will see how much difference if any, the glass carafe will hold.

Ok the first brew after the first just water brew run, the temperature was an amazing 184 degs !! finally a maker who makes a cup of hot coffee the right temperature, instead of the typical coffee makers whos legal staff are running the design department.

Pros

A great hot cup of (184 degs) coffee with an automatic shut off, one hour instead of the typical 20 mins ones out there, the timer works and the temperature was 181 degs just before the time of shut off so the warmer keeps up with the brewer temp, over all height is 11", standard store brought 4 cup round filters work perfectly and a nice blue indicating on light, you know when this unit is done brewing by the littlest burst of final steam out the top sides, a little less than 7 minutes. .

Cons (To some)

Round filter basket design, not the V shape # 2 filter type, yes a small amount of liquid drops when after brewing swinging out the basket, either wait longer to open or have a paper towel ready.
Some people will not like the "how too" graphics on the top lid, remember this review is on the "Commercial" product made for motels / hotels, read heavy duty, the cord is a 3 prong 47" long to the end not the typical 18 inches or less cord, these both things are not a problem with me.

The only reason I ordered this unit was, I wanted one that would at least last as long as my Braun (still does work) first one '89 to 2003 (glass carafe broke) second one new 2003 to present (but with a fits-all S.S. carafe) can not get an original glass carafe for this unit, this new unit goes up to my girl friends place.

Just like this one and it has really great reviews like the "Hot coffee" but I was thinking how long will this unit last, that was my driving force so I'll live with the graphs and longer cord, in thinking now yes the difference is most likely just the length of cord and it's 3-prong, (only time will tell ) if you need a longer cord for a coffee maker and don't want to use an (10 amp rated min) extension cord, this model is for you, I have no regrets with this unit and just love buying form Amazon, 9 out of 10 times dose have the best price and shipping, I think their service is great if I ever do find a tiny price difference, I will, way it out, who is doing the selling at the other end ?, is it worth taking a chance ?, in the end it's, no.

This coffee maker died after about three weeks. It overflowed twice while brewing and even after cleaning, still didn't work. It made the coffee hot enough alright--enough to burn my hand when I tried to stop it from overflowing and making a huge mess. It went right into the trash. The carafe is cheap and the heating element made the coffee taste burnt even if left for 10 minutes after brewing (when it worked!). Save yourself the money and try something else!

I'd never heard of K-cups when I ran into the
Keurig B66 in Costco. At [...]with 90 K-cups,
I figured it was worth a try. As a bit of a coffee snob
(longtime "Peetnik" who finds Starbucks a little too weak)
I'd avoided systems like
Senseo because I figured that they wouldn't brew
coffee as strong as I like it. And that WAS my experience
with the Keurig, too: The sample K-cups were okay,
but--unless brewed on the tiny 5.25 oz setting--
far too weak for my taste. Again, let me stress,
MY personal taste is for coffee stronger than probably
95% of Americans, so take that into account.

Cons: Even after trying the K-cups recommended by
others who say they prefer strong coffee
(Emeril's "Big Easy Bold," Coffee People's "Donut Shop Coffee,"
"Black Tiger" & "Wake Up", Timothy's "Midnight Magic"
& "Rainforest Espresso," and so on, I'm still having
trouble finding a stiff cup of Joe brewed at 7.25 oz.
Also, they haven't developed an environmentally friendly
K-cup yet. Damn! And it's pricey, by home coffee maker standards.

Pros: Clean-up...there really is none! This format is the
fastest, easiest, most trouble-free way to get a quick cup
of decent coffee. I'm in Bachelor Heaven! I brew whenever
I feel like it--'cause it's so easy--and never waste excess coffee.
I will never resort to instant, so this is a wonderful compromise:
It ain't french press coffee, folks, but it's pretty good and ridiculously easy.
Two or more folks can enjoy entirely different coffees at virtually
the same time.
Also, this package does include a device for using your own
coffee: after continuing to audition K-cups, I may eventually
resort to stuffing it with some quality Peet's coffee, here and there.
Also, there's a ton of different types of coffee, cocoa and tea for
this available at decent prices on Amazon
(some people consider ~44 cents a serving expensive, but I'm used to
paying for quality coffee--and not pushing for that many cups out of a pound
--so K-cups at ~$[...] for 48 cups (no tax or shipping) seems modest to ME.

From what I'm told, the B60 is the closest model for comparison...
both have 3 sizes (5.25 oz, 7.25 oz & 9.25 oz). I've heard another
Keurig model offers a 11.25 oz option, but given that I'm having
trouble finding something strong enough at 7.25, 11.25 seems laughable.
I'm using Brita water, for what it's worth, and have only had the
machine for about a month, so I can't yet speak to its durability.
It vibrates a bit and makes a little noise. Neither bothered me,
but I can see that if one person was up, making coffee, a light
sleeper in a nearby room might notice the sound.

Here's a tip: A company called Kenoza[...]
offers single cup purchases. I know the 90 cups that mine came with
sound like a lot, but I immediately realized I needed the strongest
options, so went to Kenoza and got 2 or 3 samples (at 46 cents each)
of many of the strongest ("Extra Bold" is the K-cup jargon)...coffees;
far better than blindly buying 48 cups of something you may hate!

So, in summary, at [...] with 90 K-cups I think it's a freakin'
bargain. Obviously, the more you have to pay, the less spectacular
the deal. Drinkable coffee--no one's going to mistake it for Peet's
in a french press--but it's better than instant and some regular drip
coffee makers. If you like a variety of coffees, and don't care if
it's strong, run, don't walk, to the Keurig...and the lack of clean-up
is AWESOME!

I recently asked for a cup of joe at a friend's house and they showed me their Keurig B60. They let me pick my own flavor and showed me how easy it was to make a cup of coffee with it. I was amazed at how fast this gourmet coffee was ready and how little there was to do for clean up. When I got home I researched it.

The only differences between the B60 and B66 is the color of the machine and quantity of sample K-Cups. The B60 is almost all black with a chrome handle while this B66 has a black body, silver top and chrome handle. The B60 gives you the standard 18 pack K-Cup sample, while the B66 gives you an additional 4 18-packs of samples AND a reusable "My K-Cup". The My K-Cup is a reusable filter you can put your own coffee in if you really want to (kind of defeats the purpose).

After using both the B60 and B66 I can tell you they both work EXACTLY the same. Any review you see for B60 has the same features, benefits, and shortfalls as the B66.

I'm the only coffee drinker in my house so it became a big pain to measure out beans, grind them, empty them from the grinder into the coffee maker, add the water, then wait for the coffee. Plus when you're done you have to discard the used filter / grounds and any left over coffee and clean the carafe and maybe the drip mechanism as well.

THE KEURIG IS ALMOST 100% MAINTENANCE / CLEANING FREE. It has a 48 oz water reservoir so you don't need to refill daily. The cleanup is just taking the used K-Cup and throwing it out. There's no grinding of beans or cleaning necessary and I don't have to spend 1/2 an hour to make 2 cups of coffee.

Some other nice benefits are that it also makes tea, hot cocoa and plain ole hot water (for Ramen or other uses). It also has a cool blue LED and blue lit water tank. The auto-on and off features help you save time and money. The 90 K-Cups the B66 gives you should last a long time and help you decide which blend of coffee(s) you prefer most. The water reservoir is also dishwasher safe.

The cons are few and far between. It is noisy when it starts and finishes making a cup of coffee. The water intake makes a loud vibrating noise when it pumps water in or out of the internal reservoir. This doesn't bother me, my wife, or my infant son. The strength of the 9.25 oz versus the 5.25 ounce cup is diminished. It's just the amount of water being used on the same amount of grounds. So if you want a regular 9.25 oz coffee you should probably use a strong K-Cup. Refill K-Cups are somewhat expensive, but it's WAY less then a gourmet coffee shop. If you look around and use coupons it's a great way to save.

I've had the coffee maker for 3 days now and I couldn't be prouder of my purchase. I look forward to my daily coffee finally!

One last note, if you're going through a carafe or more of coffee a day, you may want to think about whether or not it's a cost savings or worth the time savings for you. But for me, this is the best product I've come across in a while.

I actually purchased this at a local Target store, but bought it based on the Amazon customer reviews. I only make coffee once a day, enough to fill my commuter cup (~2.5 cups worth according to the markings on the carafe). It brews quickly, and the coffee is a lot hotter than what came out of my prior coffeemaker (a Black and Decker 4 cup maker). My commuter cup is stainless steel and I discovered that I do NOT need to pre-heat it with hot water like I used to do; the freshly brewed coffee from this model stays good and hot in my commuter cup for at least an hour. I'm impressed that there are so many features for the price, i.e, clock, delay brew, pause 'n pour.

Yes, there is one little quirk: the filter basket doesn't seat firmly if the lid is up (due to the spring mechanism that allows the pause 'n pour function)so you do have to take the carafe off of the plate at the very beginning of preparation and put it back at the very last (once the lid is closed and before pressing "START"), but that's such a minor thing, it's not even an issue with me (I just wanted to let you all know). Overall, I really like this coffeemaker and am very pleased with it.

The coffee maker itself works fine. Brews pretty quick. BUT!!!! The damn "decanter", pot, whatever... DRIBBLES every time you pour!!! When i fill the back with the decanter- it dribbles water all over the counter. When i pour out the first 2 cups of coffee- it dribbles coffee all over the counter. It's doubled my paper towel consumption!!! Tried everything- lifting the lid to pour, pouring slowly, pouring quickly etc. Haven't tried running it over with the car yet.

I don't like this Mr Coffee as much as my last one. It causes alot of fluid spill. The pot spout is narrow, so when pouring coffee into our cups it overflows the spout onto the countertop no matter how slow you pour it. There are two holes in the back of the coffee maker designed, I guess, so you don't overfill the water resevoir. When I'm pushing the coffeemaker back into place on our countertop after filling it, the water swishes and spills out of the holes. Then, when you lift the lid and pull out the coffee basket, condensed water spills onto the hot plate, another area you have to wipe up. I'll deal with it because I don't want to pay the ridiculous prices for another time delay coffee pot but it's a pain in the neck to keep having to wipe up spills

It depends on what a "cup" is... - Lauren -
While there is no concurrence in the coffee industry as to what a "cup" is, Villaware has the smallest notion of a cup I have yet encountered. This model is represented as a 4-cup espresso maker, but it actually makes only 4 ounces. Using a 2-ounce demi-tasse as a reasonable measure, the model would be properly represented as a 2-cup espresso maker. Were espresso makers rated by their capacity in ounces, rather than cups, I would not have ordered it. As it was, I ordered and promptly returned it. My compliments to Amazon for making it simple.

In addition to its small size, the item is poorly made. The edge of the lid is razor sharp, and, in fact, it cut my hand.

I ordered this espresso maker because I thought it would be best to replace my aluminum one with stainless steel. But I would prefer to continue using my aluminum Bialetti to putting up with the poor quality of this cheapie. I don't think enough of Villaware's workmanship to spend more to get the 6-cup, which presumably holds 6 ounces.

My Bialetti 4-cup stovetop espresso maker makes 8 delicious ounces of perfect espresso, and until something really superior comes along, it's a keeper.

I love this little machine! I purchased the first one in 2004 after reading excellent reviews on the "crema" quality. We've used this machine everyday for the last 5 years and look forward to it every morning. I'm an Americano drinker and have found the way to get the strongest, smoothest flavor from this machine is to pull a double shot, then add half an inch of boiling water, then cream. Delicious! Here in Seattle, I use local Lighthouse Roasters or Longbeach Roasters coffee beans at home. The freshness of these high quality coffees makes our home espresso drinks as good as we'd get at a cafe. The second machine I just bought today is for the office, where I've been spending way too much money running to the corner cafe for coffee in the afternoon. Since I purchased our first machine 5 years ago, the price of this unit has dropped by half (I paid for the first one). I'm hoping the popularity of the machine has allowed DeLonghi to drop the price and not the quality.

Side Note: I have never used the frothing wand on this machine and have heard the milk steaming/frothing capacity is low. The steam pressure, in relation to coffee quality, creates the most flavorful shots the first 2 runs. Give the machine a break of 10 minutes or so before turning on another steam cycle. For us at home, this is the amount of time it takes to drink our first cup, so the timing works out perfectly.

The build quality of this model is amazing. I just purchased a similar Mr. Coffee model which is cheaply built. It broke and I had to return it. This DeLonghi feels solid. Only problem is that it is almost impossible to froth milk with it. If they could make the frothing mechanism more flexible like the Breville models, put it higher up, this would be amazing... I'm really sad I had to return it. I could see that this would be OK if you have a nice frothing beaker that is fairly small, but otherwise, I would not recommend this product. I hope they read amazon reviews.

The first one of these that I ordered was returned because it didn't heat up. Its replacement was just as bad. I tried several times to make cappuccino and there wasn't enough steam to even heat the milk, let alone froth it. The last time I tried (about the 4th), there wasn't any steam at all, even though I put in water way up past the steam marking on the carafe. I'm sending this one back for a refund. It did work fine for expresso, but that's not what I bought it for.

I have both the 2 cup and the 4 cup versions which work similarly, both producing great-tasting crema/espresso-type coffees in around 3 minutes. The 2-cup gives just under 3 oz (perfect for my 3 oz espresso cups) and the 4-cup gives just under 6 oz when filled with water (as recommended) to the line on the small plastic measuring cup provided. They will give the claimed 4 and 8 oz when their measuring cups are filled to the top. This is STRONG espresso-type coffee which tastes great straight or as the base for a latte, cappuccino, or macchiato. The crema produced by the 2 cup model is especially creamy.

No wonder this is the method of choice for many Europeans who have at least one of these inexpensive and simple gadgets. Bialetti produces the best (I have kept 6 of the many mokka pots I have bought, and only one was not made by Bialetti). Just be sure to season the aluminum pot by making at least the suggested 3 pots of sacrificial coffee and do not use RO (reverse osmosis) water which can leach metals. These pots improve with age but the gaskets will need to be replaced when they become hard. Just be sure to rinse them thoroughly with hot water and dry them completely before reassembly and storage - and NEVER put them in the dishwasher.

These seem to work best with medium ground coffee leveled in the basket, but with NO pressure or tamping. Espresso grind works poorly, and only if the basket is slightly under-filled. In order to prevent leakage, it is essential to be meticulous when wiping all coffee grounds from the rim of the filter basket before firmly tightening the 2 main parts. Both sizes work fine on my smooth-top stove using a medium-low setting. Just be prepared for the noise it makes after about 3 or 4 minutes when the pressure builds to the point where the valve/weight lifts and the coffee is squirted out in a few seconds at around 200 F. Quick removal from heat is necessary, and will avoid burnt flavours. Be sure to have that espresso cup handy to capture the great-tasting crema. The well-designed large spout pours quickly and with no dribbling.

At first it seems as though there is a fair amount of work involved in producing an "espresso", but both speed and comfort-level improve rapidly with practice. I recently bought an expensive (00) super automatic espresso machine. I returned it within 2 days because the quality of the coffee produced was so inferior to that produced by my Brikkas.

Wikipedia defines espresso:
Caffè espresso, espresso, [expresso] is a concentrated coffee beverage brewed by forcing hot water under pressure through finely ground coffee.

The above definition seems to include this preparation method, but "Espresso Experts" may claim that these Brikka pots (why does Amazon call them percolators???) are not true espresso. Either way, I DON"T CARE. I simply adore the coffee they produce.

I have never had an expensive espresso maker so I cannot compare this product to it, but this sure does make a nice espresso. It makes the foam that an espresso should have, it is simple to use, and easy to clean up. I am really satisfied with this product in regards to its price and its functionality.

Good expresso, questionable materials - Terrillja -
I had a 4 cup Brikka for one week before I forgot to put water in it and managed to melt the handle and top off. I will be getting a new one, however there are a few things that I feel should be addressed in the design. The handle is resin and can melt off, adding a metal core with the resin over-molded wouldn't be a huge amount of work but would make it more rugged and prevent the handle from coming off if you do as I did. The top window is useless. You're making hot coffee, which has steam, so the window is all steamed up the whole time. Why bother to put it in? It is also made of some sort of injection molded plastic, it doesn't feel like it would hold up well either, Bialetti needs to go back to the solid top. One noticeable plus for me is that the funnel the coffee goes in is stainless rather than the aluminum used in older moka pots, which makes it much easier to clean up.

The most important part- the coffee: It makes great coffee, lots of crema, no complaints there. Wait for the very audible pop as the pressure overcomes the weight of the stopper, take it off the heat and you have great expresso. I'm buying 2 more brikkas, one 2 cup and one 4 cup, the coffee is that good. A few poor material choices on the part of Bialetti, but overall a great leap over the moka.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COFFEEMAKER!!

I had chosen this coffeemaker because of the design (goes with the other stainless kitchen appliances) and that it is made by Cuisinart, which I thought makes good appliances. This coffeemaker has worked "perfectly" for me only twice out of about 8 tries, after which I gave up. It's sitting (pretty) on my counter but will only be used as a back-up.

The carafe tends to dribble when the water is poured into the reservoir and when I pour the coffee! If you hold the carafe "just right" (I haven't quite figured out what that is) it won't dribble. Too much trouble! I want to just pour my coffee!!

Another drawback, IMO, is that the coffee basket is basically pointed so you can't set it on the counter to pour your coffee grounds into the filter because it tips onto its side. This is troublesome for me because I grind my beans and usually pour the grounds directly from the grinder. Twice I've had the grinds go over the sides of the filter and make a mess. I suppose I could've spooned the grinds in, but it's actually hard to spoon coffee grinds out of the grinder with the blade in the middle of things.

Another feature that's supposed to be an asset is that it automatically shuts off after 30 minutes. My pattern in the morning is to make coffee, take a shower, pour my first cup, do other things, and then come back for the 2nd cup, which I would like to be hot. Nope! This baby shuts off and the coffee cools down real fast!!

I have heard better reviews by friends of Mr. Coffees!!

I am back to using my French press.

I bought my Cuisinart coffee maker four years ago, and it's still going strong.

The advantages? For one, it makes excellent and HOT coffee. The carafe is solidly constructed and fits securely in square body so there's no chance of someone accidentally knocking it loose. Because the lid fits tightly, the pour is precisely narrow and smooth, with no side leaks even when the pot is full. The basket fits inside the housing instead of swinging free like so many models which prevents a misalignment between the water and the filter; the conical (Krups/Braun style) basket accepts both paper filters and gold-tone, although I learned the hard way that not all gold filters fit. The timer is very easy to program, as is the clock. The carafe warmer can be set at low, medium, or high for the temperature that's right for you. I found the "high" setting too hot since I drink my coffee black (I like my coffee hot but not scalding!), but those who add a lot of milk might appreciate it. The brewing is quick and efficient, with the process taking about a minute a cup, maybe less. The retro/stainless look complements most modern kitchen décors. There's a 1-4 cup setting to make sure such small amounts stay hot, and you can select how long the warmer remains on. The pot beeps five times when brewing is complete and just before the warming plate shuts off. Parts are top rack dishwasher safe. It comes with a water filter system designed to improve the taste of the brew.

But the Cuisinart does have disadvantages. The water reservoir is located on the right side, in the back, which makes it a little challenging for lefties like me to dump the final bit of water inside even though the carafe pours very accurately. Although I rarely miss the opening, I do struggle briefly with those last few drops unless I use my right hand. The housing is fairly tall, so if your counter space is only under the cabinets, you may not be able to lift the top in its entirety. (This is when the small rear reservoir becomes a major issue as you have to have room to completely lift the rather large top toward the back.) Clearance required: 7.5" wide by 8.5" deep of counter space with no overhead obstruction to pull out for filling OR 21.5" of overhead space to fully lift top. Without the top open, the coffee maker measures 7.5"w x 8.5"d x 14.25"h.

If you have the space for this coffee maker, you'll love it.

I have had my Cuisinart Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker for a couple weeks now. I have yet to use the programming feature but I have brewed coffee in it nearly every day. The water tank is a little bit hard to reach for pouring water into, just a bit awkward. The wire coffee basket lets very fine residue through so, for some coffee drinkers, you may want to add a paper filter.

The controls are quite intuitive and I especially like that I have only to flip a switch to start brewing my morning joe. It operates more quietly than others I have had, and, since I live in a very small apartment, that is greatly appreciated. The brew time for the coffee seems to be perfect. I get excellent results consistently. I have tried both flavored and unflavored coffees and, while I am not an expert, I do like the cuppa it makes.

I was looking to replace my krups, which is on its last legs. After reading about the quality problems with their newer models i thought I'd try Cuisinart, very disappointing.
The plus side, its sturdily built, programmable, not too many bells and whistles.
The negatives, unlike the previous reviewer I take my coffee with cream, so it wasn't hot enoughat all.
I followed the instructions but never got rid of a funny taste in the coffee.
Third, the gauge for the resevoir is INSIDE the unit you have to peer down to try and see where the water level is. The designers must all have night vision if they think this is user friendly.
I'm left handed also and found pouring awkward, although you can access the reservoir from both sides.
All in all very disappointing from a well known brand, I'm stil searching for a coffeemaker

I've had one of these I purchased locally for about 7 years now and ran 2-4 pots of coffee through it a day. (roughly 9000!! pots of coffee plus espresso and still running strong!) I took w/ me to europe and back where my wife and went to countless coffee shops over the 4 and a half years we were there. It has always made some of the best coffee around (the neighbors came to our house for coffee). Almost as good as the professional machines at shops I went to in Germany. If you're a watery,looking-like tea, one-cup-a-day drinker, then move along and have a cup up sanka you weenie.(it's more than you need) but if you're an avid java junkie and like whipping up your espresso-based drinks, look no more.

Great coffee maker - Rtantti - Arvada, CO
I bought this maker around 1993. About years later it finally is having trouble with it's power switch. I'm looking into a new one in the hopes that I can take advantage of some of the industries innovations. It has worked like a champ and got me through college, brewing one to two pots a day. The espresso this machine makes is ok... could be better. But the machine has been a champ. It has been with me through 10+ moves over the past 16 years and if it weren't for the power switch I'd hope to keep it for another 16. Overall, this is an excellent reliable coffee/espresso combo maker. Your money will be well spent.

This works VERY well to make a strong coffee that is more intense than that from any drip or press coffee maker but not so powerful as a big high pressure espresso machine in a cafe. Somewhere in between - but quite nice and inexpensive for the home. Cleans up easily. These are made in India (probably by guys sitting with hammers on the sidwalk) so may vary a bit sample to sample.

The only problem is the rubber seal ring - this gradually wears out and if you don't find an original Bialetti replacement, it can leak steam no matter how hard you gorilla down the threads.

This elegant stainless steel coffee maker makes very good strong coffee. Although not exactly espresso (which has to be made with pressurized steam), it's close and less expensive. Plus you can avoid the cost of paper filters. But mainly I like the elegance of having this beautiful work of art on my table holding several demi-tasse cups of great coffe. It's easy to clean and maintain that shiny surface.

I am so disappointed in this pot! When it arrived, the lid was pushed down into the pot to the point that it could NOT be opened! I returned it immediately and requested another. At first I was concerned about the narrow aperture for filling the reservoir but that has not been a problem. The unit is easy to operate and program. I did not need the instructions. I makes HOT coffee quickly. I like the timer feature that shows with a graphic timer how long the pot has been brewed. The Water filter seems a bit weak. I would guess it would filter out sand or seashells but honestly it couldn't be that effective.

You can easily spend more that two times the price and get a worse unit from another manufacturer.

Died within the first year. Over priced. - BONBON -
I loved this at first...it performed very well and looked nice but after a short amount of time it wouldn't make my coffee unless I had it prepared for a full carafe. I can't choose to make less so I am left with junky coffee or more than I need. I don't want to just waste coffee so I'll need to buy another coffee maker :x I have had better results from cheaper coffee makers.

I've had this coffee pot for a few years and this morning it just died. Yesterday it brewed my coffee just fine and today- nothing. I tried unplugging it from the wall, refilling the water, and even giving it the old "Fonz" jukebox hit, but nothing worked. I probably won't buy this one again.

Iv'e owned this unit for over six years and it still works great. The seal on the lid still holds steam unlike other espresso machines that fail after a few years. This is not a professional unit that will produce the best espresso, however, this machine contains no pumps that could potentially fail. This unit simply and reliably makes OK espresso. If you are looking for a durable and reliable espresso machine, this is it. For you Baristas, do not expect amazing espresso.

Tips:
1.To get thing thing to work well, build up sufficient pressure and steam by steaming your milk first.

2.After you have steamed your milk, turn the valve on the left to the espresso setting and let the bad boy do its thing.

3.Grind your coffee grounds very fine and be patient, as this is not a pump unit. To make good espresso, do not make more than two shots at a time.

I use this unit every day to get jacked-up for work in the Military, it can work for you too! Enjoy!

Okay! Let me start by telling you this is my second one. I love the way it brews my espresso but....the handle breaks off. This latest unit lasted 8 months before the black handle attached to the brewing basket snapped off. What a mess. It's practically impossibe to use without the handle. I am not using brute force either. It's ridiculous how much I have babied this appliance. I'll sum it up as poor design!
